MTA Prepares For Overnight Closures And Intensive Cleaning

WNYC News | May 4, 2020

The MTA is preparing for the end of 24-hour service starting early Wednesday morning.

From 1 a.m. to 5 a.m., the MTA will intensify its cleaning efforts by using some experimental methods—like using ultraviolet light on train cars and in break rooms, and an antimicrobial product that could potentially kill the virus for up to 90 days.

“The bottom line for customers on transit is things will look different underground than what you’re used to,” said Sarah Feinberg, the interim president of New York City Transit.

During that time, all 472 stations will be closed with either a gate or a police officer. Bus service will be increased. And essential workers who register on the MTA’s website can get one free taxi ride, door to door.
