Mourning in the South Bronx

The Leonard Lopate Show | Jan 26, 2017

New York Times Reporter Ben Mueller joins us to discuss his ongoing “Murder in the 4-0” series, which he co-wrote with Al Baker. The series looks at the life and death of each person murdered in the 40th Precinct in the South Bronx in 2016. They chose this precinct because its murder rate remains high as crime has fallen to historic lows in much of New York City. The most recent stories in the series have looked at trust between the police and community and the death of Adrian Maldonado who was killed after a drug deal at a Bronx housing complex. The latest story in the series is on the life and death of Maribel Cavero.
