NYPR Archives & Preservation | Mar 7, 2024

Introductory remarks by announcer Rex Benware. Irving Deakin discusses composer Maurice Ravel and his Pavane for a Dead Princess and Adolf Bolm's choreographing of the work Pavane.

An unidentified speaker recites statements intended to represent the voices of Ravel and Bolm, respectively. After Deakin sets the scenario, Pianist Charlotte Homer plays music from the Ravel work.

Deakin talks about Soviet ballet, in particular Reinhold (Morit︠s︡evich) Glière and his composition for the ballet The Red Poppy, choreographed by Lev Lashchilin and Vasilii Tikhomirov.

Again, as part of Deakin's presentation, an unidentified speaker recites statements intended to be the voices of Anatoly Vasilievich Lunacharsky, described as the Soviet commissar of fine arts, and Reinhold Glière, respectively. Music from the ballet is played accompanied by Deakin's commentary.

Closing remarks and announcements.
