It’s been almost 40 years since the essential jazz bassist, composer and bandleader Charles Mingus passed away, but the Mingus Big Band keeps his musical legacy alive. The group has played Monday nights at the Jazz Standard for ten years, and occasionally works with other musicians like Elvis Costello. In 2011, the band won a Grammy for their album called, appropriately, Mingus Big Band Live At Jazz Standard. It’s a Monday, so that means the band will be at its usual spot onstage at the Jazz Standard tonight.
