New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players Present The Mikado at the Kaye Playhouse
Dec. 29 & 30 at 3PM, Jan. 4 at 2 and 7:30PM, Jan. 5 at 3PM.
Tickets: $25-95.

Of all the Gilbert & Sullivan operettas, The Mikado is probably the most often performed. A rom-com made 100 years before the term rom-com was coined, it tells the story of Nanki-Poo and his beloved Yum Yum. In addition to absurd names, and clever lyrics, and memorable tunes, The Mikado also has some thinly veiled critiques of British politics… so it’s relevant all over again, especially when the New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players get to adjusting some of the lyrics to a key aria for these modern times. New Yorkers have a few more opportunities to hear about those "Three Little Maids From School," and who is on the list* ("I've got a Little List") when The New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players perform The Mikado on Sun. and Mon. Dec. 29 & 30 at 3PM, and Jan. 4-5, at the Kaye Playhouse.

*As fans of The Mikado may be aware, the aria ‘I’ve got a Little List’ (also known as ‘As some day it may happen’) is a notable one: in almost every production of the Gilbert & Sullivan operetta, the lyrics are completely rewritten.
