Mika Stoltzman: Bach and Beyond for Marimba at Carnegie Hall Weill Recital Hall
May 2. 8PM. $59+up
Mika Stoltzman was born in Japan and learned to play piano. As a teenager, though, she fell in love with the drums. And when she discovered the marimba, it seemed like a perfect blend of keyboard and percussion. Stoltzman is now one of the leading marimba players on the scene today who leads an all-star jazz band called Mikarimba, but she also plays in a classical duo with her husband, the famed clarinetist Richard Stoltzman. On May 2, both Stoltzmans will play a recent work by New York experimental composer John Zorn; but most of her show is solo, and will include an arrangement of a John Zorn piece, called “The Nymphs.” Mika Stotzman plays a marimba concert on May 2 at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall.
