Mercury Rev – Sermon (Weekly Music Roundup)

In 1968, the Beatles were on top of the world – until Bobbie Gentry came out of nowhere – okay, actually it was Mississippi – with her southern Gothic hit, the "Ode to Billie Joe."  She followed that up with a kind of southern rock opera called The Delta Sweete, but it sank without a trace. Or so it seemed. Now, the Americana band Mercury Rev has covered that entire Bobbie Gentry album, with an impressive cast of guest singers like Lucinda Williams, Norah Jones, and on "Sermon," the rising country star Margo Price.

Written by Bobbie Gentry and sung by Margo Price, listen to "Sermon" from the forthcoming album The Delta Sweete Revisited, by the band Mercury Rev.
