The Tuareg guitarist Mdou Moctar became famous in his native Niger via the underground trading of cellphone memory cards. These days, he tours the world with his vibrant mix of Tuareg folklore and rasping electric guitar. Moctar has become a fan of rock music since he’s been traveling the globe, but he’s quick to point out that he actually grew up listening to Tuareg guitarists, and there’s a real Tuareg electric guitar tradition now. Guitarist Mdou Moctar plays Wed., Sept. 4, at Industry City in Brooklyn.
