Community gardens are vital to NYC. Here's how the Mayor's office is supporting them

People have been farming in New York City for centuries, but there hasn’t been a focused effort from the Mayor’s Office to help urban farmers thrive until recently. The City Council created the Mayor’s Office of Urban Agriculture in 2021. Last year, Mayor Adams appointed its first director.

Qiana Mickie now leads that office after a long career in urban agriculture. She spoke with WNYC's Morning Edition host Michael Hill about the city’s efforts to support community gardens.
