Marlon Williams at Brooklyn Made
Sept. 15. 8PM. $25-$30.

Marlon Williams is a New Zealander from a Maori family, who’s based in Australia but often looks to Americana for musical inspiration. On Williams’ new album, he borrows more broadly from earlier pop sounds, from the Bee Gees to the 80s style known as New Romanticism. The song “Thinking of Nina,” takes a page from the playbook of 80s groups like Simply Red or Duran Duran. In it Williams offers a wry look at romance. “I believe in love,” he croons, “under certain conditions.” Marlon Williams plays tonight at Brooklyn Made.
