The Maria Schneider Orchestra has been making music since 1994, and Schneider has won Grammys in both the jazz and classical categories. She also collaborated with David Bowie in his latter years. Through it all, she’s been closely tied to her 18-piece big band, but now, as part of her residency at the New England Conservatory, she’s conducting the NEC Jazz Orchestra in a series of her own works, including some of the music from her ambitious, Grammy-nominated 2LP set from last year called Data Lords. Maria Schneider conducts the NEC Jazz Orchestra in a free streaming event on Wed., March 10.
