The singer and activist Mari Boine is from Norway, but she is a Sami musician, rooted in the language and traditions of the traditional reindeer herders of the Arctic circle. She often uses the Sami style of rhythmic singing known as yoik, but she has paired that with jazz and rock in a series of groundbreaking albums over the past 30 years.  She sings about the rights of native people and of women, but she also sings about nature. Norwegian Sami musician Mari Boine plays Wed. night, Oct. 2, at Scandinavia House.
