Making Music In - And About - Pandemic Isolation

WNYC News | Dec 11, 2020

Most of us have experienced some sense of isolation during the pandemic, and that shared hardship inspired two New York based artists to create an album.

Paola Prestini, a composer and co-founder of National Sawdust, collaborated with her longtime friend Magos Herrera, a Jazz singer and songwriter, for the album Con Alma. The inspiration, they said, was the isolation caused by the pandemic — Prestini spoke from her Brooklyn apartment and Herrera has been in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, since the Spring.

Con Alma was recorded by over 30 artists across the world, each in their own isolated bubble. It came out last week and on Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. there will be a live video performance with all the artists in their respective bubbles, which can be streamed at allarts.org
