Lollise is a singer from Botswana now based in Brooklyn; her 2021 EP Looking At You showed a songwriter at home with the sounds of Western art-pop but not far removed from her southern African roots. Her debut LP, I Hit The Water, comes out Sept. 6 and includes this song, “eDube,” an infectious piece of dance music that features the short, sharp guitar riffs in the style of Congolese soukous. Meanwhile, Lollise’s vocals encompass both English-language pop and the traditional sounds of Setswana folk song. Lollise plays Sept. 6 at Public Records.
