The Brooklyn band called Locobeach is actually pretty well named: their music often sounds like a crazy take on '60s surf music. But it’s their album title that really gives the game away: it’s called Psychedelic Disco Cumbia. Cumbia is the name of that catchy boom-chi-cha boom-chi-cha rhythm, and Locobeach (a band who share members with Chicha Libre and Los Crema Paraíso) has no problems marrying that South American beat to the sounds of Western pop, to almost psychedelic effect. Locobeach plays at Erv’s On Beekman, in Brooklyn, on Thursday, Dec. 5.
