A Life in Conflict Photography Takes Its Toll

The Leonard Lopate Show | Sep 3, 2015

This is a rebroadcast of an interview that originally aired on July 22, 2015.

Lidia Yuknavitch talks about her novel, The Small Backs of Children. In a war-torn village in Eastern Europe, an American photographer captures an image of a young girl fleeing an explosion that has engulfed her home and family. The image wins acclaim and prizes, and becomes the obsession for the photographer’s best friend, who has suffered a devastating tragedy of her own.
