Les Amazones d'Afrique at globalFEST at the Copacabana
Sunday, Jan. 12, 2020
Tickets: $50. Doors at 6PM.

Every year at this time, New York plays host to globalFEST, a daylong marathon of music from all over the world. On Jan. 12, 2020, the lineup includes Les Amazones d'Afrique – a collective of women from West and Central Africa who are battling for gender equality while making some irresistible music. This song has a defiant title: it’s called "I Play The Kora," a reference to the West African harp that is traditionally only played by men.

Les Amazones d'Afrique play Friday, Jan. 10, in our studio at 2pm, and on Sunday, Jan. 12, they’re part of the annual globalFEST at the Copacabana, along with Tibetan singer Yungchen Lhamo, the Korean shamanic funk of Ak Dan Gwang Chil, the Ethiopian-American singer Meklit, and lots more.
