The Canadian folk band called Le Vent du Nord, or the north wind, takes as its starting point the traditional music of Quebec. For over 20 years this award-winning group has been playing old folk songs in their own arrangements and original songs that are rooted in that distinctive blend of Celtic and French music that characterizes the Quebecois sound. Using instruments like the hurdy gurdy, button accordion, and jaw harp in addition to fiddle and guitar, Le Vent du Nord play danceable and soulful tunes that expand the bounds of tradition in striking global directions, including songs from the new album, Voisinages. Le Vent Du Nord plays on Oct. 25 at Roulette.
