Singer, bassist, and guitarist Kim Gordon was part of the groundbreaking experimental rock band Sonic Youth. In the 1980s, she and her bandmates were the epitome of downtown cool. But “coolness” can be a fickle thing, and very few people manage to stay cool for 40 years. Kim Gordon, now 70, remains an iconic figure in the rock world, especially to a generation (or two) of women in rock. She’s also become an actor and an author. Her post-Sonic Youth music has covered a lot of sonic ground, including the dark industrial sound of the song, “Bye Bye.” Kim Gordon plays Knockdown Center to celebrate her new solo album, The Collective, joined by Kelsey Lu and L'Rain, and a cast of some of the avant garde's most exciting artists.
