Keeping the TLC Up to Speed

New York lawmakers have called for the replacement of the Taxi and Limousine Commission, advocating for a new agency to regulate the industry. On the Brian Lehrer Show, Rep. Adriano Espaillat called the TLC "the worst city agency ever," and responsible for recent suicides of taxi drivers.

Meera Joshi, Taxi and Limousine Commissioner, responds to these criticisms and explains a new pilot program which will give yellow and green taxi drivers the ability to offer customers upfront pricing, similar to Uber and Lyft, as well as the option to use surge pricing to determine their own rates.
