June McDoom (with String Quartet) at Baby's All Right
May 23. 7PM. $20.46

Growing up in a Jamaican family in Florida, June McDoom was surrounded by reggae; but she found herself drawn to the sounds of 60s folk. Now based in New York, she has released her debut EP, which includes this new single called “Stone After Stone.” The song alternates between huge, almost psychedelic swirls of keyboards and crashing drums (reminiscent of another type of 60s music), and moments of small, intimate acoustic musings.  June McDoom’s voice rarely rises above a breathy croon, following its own melody regardless of the kaleidoscope of sounds behind her.

"Stone After Stone" by June McDoom is part of the Weekly Music Roundup. June McDoom and a string quartet play at Baby's All Right on May 23.
