JP Jofre at the Brooklyn Public Library
Tickets: Free. No children under 6. Show at 4 pm.
JP Jofre is from Argentina, but he’s been a fixture on the music scene here in New York in recent years, both as a composer and as a player of the bandoneon. This is the accordion-like instrument associated with the Argentine tango. Jofre leads his own quintet, has written orchestral pieces, and has had his work recorded by such notables as Paquito D’Rivera and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. [All of which sounds mighty serious – and it is, but there’s a playful side to Jofre’s music as well. His repertoire ranges from classic old tangos to the Beatles’ “I Am The Walrus.”] JP Jofre plays a free Sunday afternoon concert this Sunday, March 17 at 4pm – as part of a series at the Brooklyn Public Library, that runs on many Sundays through May 12.
