Meet the Americans Rushing to Join the Kurdish Militia in Syria

The Leonard Lopate Show | Jun 6, 2016

John Knefel, journalist and host of the political podcast Radio Dispatch, profiles a group of young Americans who plan to smuggle themselves into northern Syria to join the Kurdish militia, known as the People's Protection Units (YPG), in his upcoming article in The Village Voice, “A Hello to Arms: A New Generation of Steely-Gazed Anarcho-Communists Head Off to Syria." Knefel writes that most of the 150 US citizens who have joined so far are military vets, Christian crusaders or adventurers looking for an opportunity to kill ISIS fighters.

Event: There will be a live taping of John's podcast, Radio Dispatch, on Wednesday, June 22nd at 8 p.m. at (Le) Poisson Rouge (158 Bleecker Street).
