Actor Jeff Goldblum Plays Jazz; Simon Critchley On 'Bowie'

Soundcheck | Sep 22, 2014

In this episode: Think you know Jeff Goldblum? Think again. The actor best known for his brainy scientist roles in movies like Jurassic Park and The Fly is, in real life, a jazz pianist. He and his band The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra stop by the Soundcheck studio to play a couple of tunes – and to talk about what we’d find in his record collection.

Then: In his new book, Bowie, Simon Critchley -- a philosopher and professor at the New School in New York -- takes David Bowie seriously, while remaining a really fun and funny read. It’s part memoir, part philosophical musing, inspired by Bowie’s words, characters, and production techniques. All of that is to say: this is going to be a David Bowie dork-off.
