The American Psychological Association's Role in CIA Torture Programs

The Leonard Lopate Show | May 6, 2015

Two-time Pulitzer Prize winning journalist and New York Times reporter James Risen discusses the American Psychological Association’s secret collaboration with the George W. Bush administration on torture. According to a new report by a group of dissident health professionals and human rights activists, the APA secretly coordinated with officials from the C.I.A., the White House, and the Department of Defense, creating an ethics policy that gave the Justice Department cover in their secret interrogation programs, and allowed the Justice Department to argue that their interrogation programs did not constitute torture.
