When Douglas Laux started college, he planned to become a doctor. Following the 9/11 attacks, he decided to instead join the CIA after graduation. He was first assigned as an operations officer to a remote region of Afghanistan. In Left of Boom: How a Young CIA Case Officer Penetrated the Taliban and Al-Qaeda, he writes about leading a double life, keeping his work secret from his family, and reveals how how he uncovered a major IED network in Afghanistan.
