How Toxic Oil Wastewater Gets into Your Food

Midday on WNYC | Feb 1, 2018

Food & Water Watch executive director Wenonah Hauter discusses the organization's recent investigation, Toxic Oilfield Wastewater Used to Grow California Food, Including Organics. The investigation reveals that toxic oil wastewater is used to grow crops in California, a practice that threatens food, farm workers, and the environment. Toxic oil wastewater is common even on organic farms, and nearly 40 percent of all organic produce grown in the United States comes from California. Food & Water Watch is announcing a campaign to ban the practice with a new documentary by Jon Bowermaster.

This segment is guest hosted by Jonathan Capehart.
