Masha Gessen On Russia's Return To Totalitarianism

Award-winning journalist and author Masha Gessen joins us to discuss her latest book, The Future Is History: How Totalitarianism Reclaimed Russia. She follows the lives of four people born during the fall of the Soviet Union - a time that seemingly promised to be the beginning of a new democratic era in Russia. Gessen explores how their expectations clashed with reality as Russia’s autocracy reemerged. 

Masha Gessen will appear in conversation with David Remnick at BAM (30 Lafayette Ave., Brooklyn) on Oct. 3 at 7:00 p.m.
