How Public Shaming Thrives in the Digital Age

The Leonard Lopate Show | Mar 17, 2016

Journalist Jon Ronson spent three years interviewing people who have been the recipients of high-profile public shaming, including an academic caught plagiarizing and a public relations executive who published an offensive tweet. In So You've Been Publicly Shamed, he looks at how the Internet and social media platforms like Twitter have changed the nature of public humiliation, and how it can be used as a form of social control.

Event: Jon Ronson will be in conversation with Alex Goldman, co-host of the Reply All podcast, to discuss “telling human stories about the often dehumanized tech world” at The Strand on Tuesday, March 29th at 7 p.m.
