This Is How NYC Students Plan a Walkout

WNYC News | Mar 13, 2018

Public and private school students around New York City are taking it upon themselves to organize their school’s walkout. And they're all doing it a little differently.

Some will cut class for just 17 minutes to honor the 17 people killed in the recent school shooting in Parkland, Florida. Some will hold a moment of silence; others will chant. Some students plan to talk about each of the Parkland victims, and others plan to attend a two-hour long rally after the walkout.

Listen to Nuzhat Wahid, Christopher Stauffer, Kera Franceschini, Ali Boivab, Leah Yoes, Noah Rosenfeld and Griffin Frey.

The Department of Education says middle and high school students who cut class for 17 minutes won’t be disciplined as long as they have their parent’s permission.
