How to Get Around During Overnight Subway Shutdown

WNYC News | May 5, 2020

Starting Wednesday morning, the MTA is stopping subway service from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m in order to do more extensive cleaning. It’ll continue the overnight shutdowns for the foreseeable future.

The MTA is hoping to shift all riders on to buses. Service will be increased, with more buses on the streets, making more frequent stops. Some express service will be added too. And there will be a focus on adding more buses near hospitals where health care workers commute.

The agency is also allowing some essential to workers to sign up for a plan that would give them one free taxi ride, if they live an hour and a half from their workplace or if their commute requires more than three transfers.
