Since New York’s new bail law went into effect last month, critics have seized on cases in which defendants were released without bail, only to get arrested again days later. WNYC’s Beth Fertig spoke with two victims in a case that’s gotten a lot of attention to see how they feel about bail reform. Their situations reveal problems the criminal justice system continues to have in finding solutions for defendants with mental illness who may be prone to violence.
