'High Maintenance' Fans, Exhale! New Episodes Released

WNYC News | Feb 7, 2015

A web series about a fictional Brooklyn drug dealer and his clients is back with all-new episodes. 'High Maintenance' was created by the husband-and-wife team Katja Blichfeld and Ben Sinclair.

Sinclair plays the drug dealer, but it's the customers who viewers spend most of the time with — New Yorkers like the dysfunctional family enduring a farm-to-table seder, a guy dating a (possibly homeless) woman, and a stand up comedian dealing with PTSD after a shooting during his set.

"They're composites of things that are happening to us and our friends and people on podcasts that we hear an interview with, combined with a story we heard at a dinner party, combined with a conversation we had with our mom that day," Blichfeld said.

The show's episodes are released in batches of three and range in length from five to 20 minutes. Sinclair said releasing the shows this way, exclusively on Vimeo rather than a traditional TV network, gives them freedom and ownership.

"We are the only person's approval that we have to gain. So we really try to follow our guts and make sure that artistically we feel satisfied," Sinclair said.

Be alert for scams. WNYC never asks for nor accepts money for coverage or interviews. Anyone making such a request does not represent WNYC.
