It's been an astonishingly violent year for Chicago, where over 2,500 people have been shot since January 1st. 

That number is frighteningly close to the 2,988 shooting victims Chicago recorded in all of 2015. Given that in July 2016 alone the city reported over 400 shooting victims, this gap is sure to close very soon.
