The Western Massachusetts group Winterpills has a knack for sweet harmonies and jangly hooks that bring to mind pioneering indie artists like The Jayhawks or Eliot Smith. And like both of those, Winterpills have a way of making upbeat songs about regret and resignation. The new album is called “Love Songs,” but a close listen reveals some pretty heavy stuff.
