Although they’ve been signed to a major label for many years, The Decemberists somehow retain their indie-rock street cred. Their blend of Baroque, polysyllabic storytelling and folk/prog rock has given them a uniquely identifiable sound. So it’s a little surprising to hear the band’s new single, called “Severed.” Because IT looks back to the glam rock of the late 70s and the synth-heavy English bands of the 80s like New Order and Depeche Mode.
