Gig Alert: Calexico – Flores y Tamales (Weekly Music Roundup 2018 Preview)

The band Calexico has always made indie rock colored with the sounds of the American Southwest and Mexico, as the name Calexico might imply. Later this month they’ll release their ninth album, The Thread That Keeps Us, full of songs about displacement, exile, and homecomings – not always happy ones. But the music is often quite upbeat, with touches of mariachi horns and Mexican cumbia rhythms. One song, called "Flores y Tamales," flowers and tamales, is sung entirely in Spanish. The album comes out late this month but we are premiering this song today as part of our Weekly Music Roundup. Check it out for our look ahead to some notable 2018 releases.
