In honor of Halloween, we bring you a “danse macabre” or dance of death. Beginning in the late medieval period--can you say “black plague” ?-- artistic works became particularly fixated on how the end comes to each of us. Dark? Yes. But the concept has long been central to ideas of art and the transience of beauty. This “Danse Macabre” is from the French Romantic composer Camille Saint-Saens and is played by the, yes, young and vigorous piano duo Anderson and Roe. Anderson and Roe perform this work and other pieces that fit the holiday mood tonight at Advent Lutheran Church at Broadway & 93^rd street.
