Frank Sinatra – All or Nothing At All documentary

In 1971, it seemed that Frank Sinatra had passed his sell-by date. Rock was the dominant music of the day and Sinatra decided to call it quits with a retirement concert at LA’s Ahmanson Theater. There, he could do his old hits, like the torch song “Angel Eyes.”

As it turned out, Sinatra didn’t stay retired for long, and continued to perform well into the 90s. Sinatra: All Or Nothing At All is the name of Alex Gibney’s four-hour documentary for HBO on Frank Sinatra, done in Sinatra’s centennial year of 2015. The film is now available for streaming via Amazon Prime, but hear the Emmy-winning filmmaker discussing Sinatra’s larger-than-life life and work, and playing clips from the film, as part of the latest Soundcheck Podcast (from the archives.)
