This music, believe it or not, comes from a bass player. Florent Ghys is originally from France, but he’s become a familiar player on the New York contemporary music scene. His works often include technology – looping, electronics, and digital sampling, all woven together by a composer who’s interested in being both experimental and playful. Ghys has just released two albums – Ritournelles and Mosaïques - one of ambient, instrumental works with layers of bass, and the other of these more collage-like pieces, full of surprises, intensity, and humor. He plays music from both of his new albums May 26 at Joe’s Pub.
