First NYPD Officer Shot In 2018

WNYC News | Nov 5, 2016

An NYPD detective shot in the leg in Bed Stuy Friday morning was the first shooting of a NYPD police officer in 2018. The wounded detective, identified by sources as Brooklyn North Warrant Squad member Miguel Soto, was shot in the upper thigh while attempting to serve a warrant for domestic robbery.

At a press briefing NYPD police commissioner James O’Neil said suspect Kelvin Sitchel fired six rounds at officers in a chase that spanned over several blocks around the Kingston-Throop subway stop. Sitchel, who was wanted for several domestic violence incidents against his wife, suffered a nonfatal gunshot wound as well.

New York City's police commissioner says detective Soto is in good spirits and is expected to make a full recovery.
