Ezra Collective at Central Park SummerStage
Sunday, July 7. 6PM.

Ezra Collective, the London-based Afrobeat jazz band, has just released its first new single since winning the prestigious Mercury Prize in the UK last year. “Ajala” is a hyperkinetic mix of funk, jazz, and the old Ghanaian pop style called highlife, and is named after Olabisi Ajala, the Ghanaian-Nigerian writer who decided he wanted to travel the world – by moped. Ajala’s restless energy is the inspiration for the quintet’s relentless rhythm section, and the track’s short, snappy horn riffs seem designed to get you moving. Ezra Collective plays a free show on Sunday, July 7, at SummerStage in Central Park.
