Sean Carroll, a theoretical physicist California Institute of Technology, is often tasked with explaining huge concepts like physics and cosmology to the average person. He's explained the Higgs Boson to Stephen Colbert, and in a TED talk he broke down why time exists, the nature of the universe, and our place in it.

In his new book, "The Big Picture: On the Origins of Life, Meaning and the Universe Itself, " Carroll explores how the world works on the quantum level, the cosmic level, and the human level, and how each one relates to the other. Here, he explains how the entire universe can be explained in a cup of coffee.
