Ethan Hawke's Love Letter to a Cherished Piano Teacher

The Leonard Lopate Show | Mar 11, 2015

Seymour Bernstein started playing the piano as a little boy, and by the time he turned fifteen, he was teaching it to others. He enjoyed a long and illustrious career as a performer before he gave it up to solely pursue teaching. The 86 year-old pianist first met the actor and filmmaker Ethan Hawke at a dinner party, when Bernstein counseled him through a bout of stage fright. “Seymour: An Introduction” is both Hawke’s portrait of Bernstein and a love letter to the study of music itself. The film opens March 13 at Lincoln Plaza Cinemas and the IFC Center.
