Episode 2: It Starts in Middle School

Beyond #MeToo | Jan 23, 2018

According to the latest research, sexual harassment is experienced by most teenage girls and young women. It often begins in junior high school, exacerbated by social media. Tonight, WNYC's Manoush Zomorodi opens the phones for young people and their parents. She'll speak with Harvard University Developmental Psychologist Richard Weissbourd about his research on the pervasiveness of harassment among teens and preteens, what educators should be doing and what parents should know. Then, she'll be joined by youth theater director and playwright Katie Cappiello, along with two of her teen actors, Jasmine Niang and Fred Hechinger, who will talk about harassment from their perspective. And Karen Soren, Professor of Pediatrics at Columbia University Medical Center, will provide advice for parents about when and how to talk to their kids about these issues.
