The 'Doolittle' Challenge: Summarize a Pixies Classic in Six Words

Soundcheck | May 2, 2014

In April 1989, the Pixies released their second full-length album, Doolittle, earning raves from critics, college radio and British audiences, but performing poorly on the charts. (It peaked at No. 98 on the Billboard 200). Twenty five years later, Doolittle's imprint can be detected throughout mainstream and experimental music.

New York Times music writer Ben Sisario wrote about Doolittle for the 33 1/3 book series back in 2006. He joins us to talk about the record's influence, then and now. And we dare to bring up Indie Cindy, the new album released last month by the reunited Pixies (minus bassist and fan favorite Kim Deal).

And: Take the Doolittle Challenge! Can you sum up the album in six words or less? Some examples we've received already:

Man Five Devil Six God Seven --Ebbhead

Epic nostalgic fresh influential dark groundbreaking --Sebastian

Prickly punk shell; creamy pop filling --Anne

Post your six word response to the Doolittle Challenge below, tweet us or leave a message (866-939-1612). Your response might end up on the show!
