Don Gillis

The NYPR Archive Collections | Jan 1, 2000

This episode is from the WNYC archives. It may contain language which is no longer politically or socially appropriate.

Don Gillis opens by explaining that he will be speaking about himself in the third person for the whole program, rather than say "I" the whole show.

He begins by giving some biographical information about himself, noting that he just turned 40, is married with two children, lives in Forest Hills, NY, lived in Texas for some years and for the past eight years he has been a producer of the NBC symphony broadcast.

No music in this recording. Ins and outs only.

"Portrait of a Frontier Town"
"The Man Who Invented Music"

Gillis notes that he tries to make music fun, mentions "Five Little Pieces for Nephews and Nieces." Music should be made to be enjoyed. Music is a normal human function.

"Symphony No. 8"

Discusses his "fractional symphony" - "Perpetual in Motion" from "Symphony 5 1/2"
