De Blasio Keeps Up Spending in Election-Year Budget

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio unveiled his $84.86 billion executive budget for fiscal year 2018 Wednesday, up from his preliminary budget. He also outlined a $95.8 billion dollar ten year capital plan, up roughly $6 billion dollars from the plan presented in January.

On the capital side, the increases stem in large part from the de Blasio administration's goal to achieve deeper affordability in the their housing plan, accounting for nearly two-thirds of the capital increase.

WNYC’s Sean Carlson sat down with City Hall reporter Brigid Bergin to talk through the initial details.

The City Council must reach a budget deal with the mayor by June 30.
