Dana Lyn is a violinist and a classical composer whose idea of classical composition might sound like rock or folk or jazz. Early this year she released a suite of works inspired by The Rose, by painter Jay DeFeo – whose idea of painting ended up looking like sculpture. Her massive piece, The Rose, was lost for years before being excavated – yes, excavated. Anyway, that set Dana Lyn on the path to writing this music, for a mixed ensemble of classical and improvising musicians. Dana Lyn and her band play Tues., Oct. 18 at Joe’s Pub.
