The Colombian folk dance known as cumbia has spread throughout the Americas, changing somewhat as it travels. As far south as Argentina or up in Mexico, the cumbia sounds different. The Cumbia River Band somehow manages to create a distinctly New York style of cumbia, one that has an elegant jazzy swing to it. Of course it’s still true to the cumbia’s roots as a dance form. On Friday, Jan. 21, the band offers you a chance to dance at Symphony Space or watch online via both in person or livestream tickets options.
